Safety at home & out
Learn to see like a child
Go through your home at knee height and look at what a curious child can reach. Sockets, cables, drawers, cleaning agents, medicines, small parts. This child's-eye view reveals most dangers before anything happens.
The most common hazards
Hot water and hot drinks, the stove, stairs, open windows and balconies, water in any form, cables and tipping furniture. Secure these areas actively: stove guard, stair gates, secured windows, shelves fixed to the wall.
Properly secured in the car
An age-appropriate, correctly fitted child seat is mandatory and saves lives, even on short trips. Thick jackets don't belong under the belt. Never leave children alone in the car, especially in heat. Safety has no exception.
Out and in traffic
Small children can't yet judge distance and speed. At the road, always hold hands. Practise pedestrian behaviour playfully and with a good example. A helmet on bike and scooter is a matter of course, from the start.
Water needs full supervision
Children can drown silently in very shallow water and in seconds. At the bath, paddling pool, pond, pool or lake: always within arm's reach and with undivided attention. No glance at the phone, no brief stepping away.
Prepare for emergencies
Note the emergency number visibly, keep a small home first-aid kit and take a first-aid course for child emergencies. Preparation removes panic in a real situation. This guide doesn't replace a course but encourages one.
